According to the decision of the XXIV Pandito Hambo Lama Ayusheev
According to the decision of the XXIV Pandito Hambo Lama Ayusheev, the restoration of historical datsans in Buryatia is systematically underway. In 2024, rabnai (consecration) rituals were held, and Tsogchen dugans were opened in one of the oldest datsans, the main Cossack Buddhist temple - Bultumursky Datsan (Selenginsky District of Buryatia), as well as in Chesansky Datsan (Kizhinginsky District of Buryatia).
260 years ago, in 1764, the Senate of the Russian Empire issued a decree on the creation of four Buddhist Cossack regiments. These regiments were formed from the best representatives of the Buryat clans living on the border of the Russian Empire, with each regiment attached to its ancestral datsan. Thus, back in the mid- 18th century, our people were granted the great honor of preserving their religion and defending the borders of their homeland. The basis of all Cossack regiments were tabanguts of three clans, and the main datsan of the Tabanguts is Bultumursky Datsan, which currently stands at the intersection of Selenginsky and Kyakhtinsky Districts of Buryatia.
In the past, the absence of administrative borders in their modern framework between districts and regions united residents around Chesansky Datsan, including those from parts of the modern Kizhinginsky District of Buryatia and residents of Khiloksky District in Zabaykalsky Krai. This is why the ancestral datsan of the world-famous sculptor Dashi Namdakov, a native of the Ukurik area in Zabaykalsky Krai, is located in Buryatia. For his ancestral Chesansky Datsan, Dashi Namdakov created a statue of Buddha on the altar of Tsogchen Dugan. This unusual statue depicts Buddha walking here, with his right hand in the gesture of abhaya mudra - offering protection from obstacles and harm. The left hand is in the gesture of varada mudra, representing the highest gift from both common and highest Siddhas.
Over the past 10 years, since the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Pandito Hambo Lamas Institution, two historical datsans have been opened: one at the site of the first residence of Pandito Hambo Lama in Hilgantuysky Datsan (Kyakhtinsky District of Buryatia) - the Palace of the Buddha of Purity Vajrasattva (Bazarsadyn Ordon); and another at the site of the ancestral Yangazhinsky Datsan (Ivolginsky District of Buryatia) associated with the XII Pandito Hambo Lama Etigelov. He left the site to the unchanged state in 1927 and remains in it to this day. The site is known as the Palace of the Buddha of Original Vajradhara (Ochirdariin Ordon).
